Fear of Making Decision

The talk have attracted 1800 of participants.

Kampar- Gan Jiang Han, a senior news broadcaster of Astro graced UTAR with his presence on 11th July at Dewan Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik to give a talk on “Fear of Making Decision”. Approximately 1800 participants benefited.

The talk was organised by UTAR Department of Students Affairs, Counselling and Guidance Units to match with this year Counselling and Wellness Week(CWW)’s theme which is “Fear?"and the slogan"Light in the Darkness”.

Gan Jiang Han began his talk by opened up his own experience and the reason he choose this topic with his hilarious ways. In a very short time, all the audience burst into laughter.

“Making decision is a normal encounter in life. But when some people came to make decision, they will be drown in dilemma situation, struggling with which is right for them.” said Gan.

He mentioned that he is a lucky person, he did not make any big decision in his past. When he faced the choosy moment, the chances always come first.

Such as when he need to choose whether he should he continue to debate or find a job after studies. On this moments, his friends recommended him to interview as a news broadcaster and now he's in this career for 10 years.

“Life’s like a box of chocolates you never know what you're gonna get”. This is the way he described his life. But not everyone was as lucky as him, they still have to make Gan Jiang Han is giving his talk. decision.

Therefore, he came out with 5 immediate ways to help the students to make a decision in a short period time can make a choice without giving up another.” said Gan.

“Firstly, you have to learn how to relinquish your choices. Nobody can make a choice without giving up another.” said Gan.

“Making decision is a subtraction, although life is addition but when come to make decision, you have to minus the choices that are not suitable for you. The choices may look attractive but it still does not belong to you. Why should we stay in a condition of enjoying the moments of choosing, not preferring to moving on?” he added.

Third ways, he highlighted using a long period to make a decision will only lengthen the time to achieve dream. When everybody have finished their studies, but you still thinking on what to study. This have made you left a long distance behind them.

No matter when you are going to make decision, the answer will still be the same. He stated a dilemma person will try to escape than to make decision, but in the end you still need to face the reality. So if your mentality is the same from the beginning to the end, why don’t you make your decision earlier?

In addition, he mentioned sometimes making decision need some elements to make it works. Just like money is the factor to make him attend the China debate TV program.

Event in charge person,Ho Sheau Huey presented Gan Jiang Han a small gift as token.

The talk lasted for one hour and ended with 30 minutes Q&A session. The audience asked a lot of weird question but Gan uses his own funny ways to answer, such as a student ask a typical question which is if you wife and mother dropped into the water, who do you save first?

Without a minutes of thinking, Gan gave speedy answer that he have a lot of assistants by his side that can save his mother and wife. He advice students to get more assistants so that is not a problem anymore.

Outside grand hall, organizer had hold a small exhibition.

The chairperson of the CWW, Chuah Chong Sheng (Y3S3, Business in Information System) stated that this is the fourth year they organised CWW, Gan Jiang Han’s talk is a part of CWW. They still have exhibition and other talks.

“We hope through this events, the audience can acquaint their fear, overcome it and bring it to a brighter side just like our CWW theme this year.” Chuah said.

Chuah added, they actually only prepared 400 pieces of ticket but because the over enthusiastical response, so they decided to add seats and change the venue to bigger hall.
