PETALING JAYA: Rejuvenated Kelantan have recorded their second straight win in four days.
The Red Warriors resumed their Super League campaign on a positive note – thrashing 10-man Terengganu 6-1 in an east coast derby at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Gong Badak on Friday.
Kelantan had also opened their Malaysia Cup Group B campaign with a 1-0 win over Pahang at the Sulyan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru on Tuesday.
On Friday, striker Baze Ilijoske starred with four goals. The Macedonian scored the opening goal from a penalty kick in the fourth minute and added three more in the 63rd, 75th and 86th minutes. Ilijoske is now the top scorer in the league with 11 goals.
Kelantan’s new signing, Brazilian striker Wander Luiz, was on target in the 44th minute while Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor added the other in the 59th minute.
The Turtles had only themselves to blame for the defeat, having started the game on the wrong foot when towering defender Vincent Bikana of Cameroon was sent off for an infringement inside the box in the fourth minute.
But Terengganu managed to pull a goal back despite Kelantan’s numerical advantage after Canadian Issey Nakajima scored from a free-kick in the seventh minute.
The big win enabled Kelantan to move up four rungs to fourth spot in the 12-team standings with 16 points.
They are ahead of Terengganu, Kedah and Terengganu on goal difference.
