KAMPAR: With vision of each and every Malaysian unleashing their mind’s unlimited potential and developing their brainpower, the Malaysia Mental Literacy (MMLM), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) jointly organised the 12th Malaysia Festival of the Mind which was launched by the Guest of Honour Perak State Executive Council Member Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon at Dewan Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik in Utar Kampar on 16 &17 July 2016.
MMLM Chairman Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik said,” In today’s globalized and competitive world, maximizing brainpower is no longer an option. It is a necessity. To excel in life, one needs to adapt oneself and face new challenges intelligently and positively. These new challenges require one to find new and creative ways of problem solving.”
“MMLM was founded in 2006 with the vision to raise the awareness of developing mental literacy and promote ways to improve mental literacy among Malaysians from every walk of life.” he added.
He highlighted MMLM has also been held annually since its inaugural launch in 2007, with hopes that people from all segments of society, from young schoolchildren to working adults, and even retirees, are able to come forward to discover the unlimited potential of the human mind, to explore ways to increase mental capacity and to develop the mind for self-improvement.
“Despite having promoting mental literacy for 10 years, we are still not ready to rest on our laurels. Therefore, this year, MMLM is proud to bring the 12th Malaysia festival of the Mind to both states, Perak and Penang so that even more people are aware of such mental literacy movement.” he said.
Moreover, Perak State Executive Council Member Dato’ Dr Mah Hang Soon asked the audience why is mental literacy important during his speech. He explained that the brain is not only powerful, but influential. It affect our action, behaviours, controls and decision-making. The choice that we make in our everyday life is not simply a hunch, but it is all from the brain.
He said,” there are still many large groups of community that do not have the privilege like us, but with MMLM, I believe we are one step closer to helping the whole Malaysia possess the full mental capacity.”
Aptly themed “Great Mind, Great Future”, the annual Festival of the Mind aims to imprint the importance of mental literacy among the general public and to create greater awareness about the human mind and ways of tapping into and developing one’s brain power.
Seven public talks and 14 workshops, with each programme going for one hour, will be held over the two days of the festival. There will be an exhibition, mind games,MENSA admission test, and mental literacy related products. Public talks and workshops will be delivered by experts and professionals.
